Springtime is here; ushering in that breath-of-fresh air feel. It’s a season of new beginnings, of fresh starts, spring cleaning, and plenty of reasons to gather. If you’re styling a dining room table for a spring gathering like a birthday brunch with friends, family celebration for Passover or Easter, or even a Mother’s Day meal, we love leaning into the feathery hues of the spring season. When thinking of table decor ideas for Easter (or for any springtime gathering) look to table linens, dinnerware, and accessories that embrace natural elements.

First, start out by setting your color palette, which can really run the gamut. If you’re not quite sure where to start, we advise our clients to look to nature for inspiration on what color combinations work together. Take the inside of a seashell, for example. Inside, you might find mauve and blush tones mixed with charcoal or a soft ivory. Or, simply look out your window for all the inspiration you need: the green of the grass, the blue in the sky, and soft white buds of flowers beginning to bloom.

Then, it’s time to select your table linens as a base, perhaps reaching for a soft, linen tablecloth with a lovely pattern. You can layer a runner on top or simply opt for lovely woven placemats. It’s here that you can have a lot of fun mixing patterns — something we love to do. The key to a successful combination is mixing small-scale patterns with large ones so that they don’t compete with each other. (More on mixing patterns here.)

After setting your table with your dinnerware and flatware, don’t be afraid to get a little playful when styling your table with spring decor. Set the tone for your gathering by folding in a few items that echo the spirit of the celebration (you decor can be as joyful as you wish).
